Let’s Talk – Strap-On Harnesses

Purchasing your first strap-on harness can be over whelming. With all the styles on the market, where do you start. After buying quite a few of my own over the past two years, I just might be able to help.

All harness’s fall into three basic categories, single or dual straps and panty style. A single strap has three anchor points on the o-ring and one strap that wraps around and up the crevice of your bottom. On the other hand, duel strap harnesses are similar to jock straps with two straps that hug your butt cheeks. This style typically has four anchor points on the o-ring. The panty style is true to its name being designed similar to panties with the o-ring sown in.

I have experience with them all. For me, the single strap seems to be geared more towards those who want to use a harness during BDSM play. Because the single strap wrap up between your lady bits, it’s restrictive and doesn’t allow access to them. The dual strap is my style of choice. Straps rest comfortably on my body and the four points hold the dong nice and tight in place. Best of all, the strap wrap around your lady bits and allow full and unobstructed access to my lady bits. Lastly the panty style harness, in my opinion, this style is suited more for packing rather than pegging. Also, I’ve heard many stories of men who find this style perfect for dual penetration or in cases of erectile issues.

There are also two basic styles of harnesses, those with front panels and those without. Just as their names imply one has only an o-ring in the front and the other has a front panel. Those without front panels are very minimal and the dong rests directly against your skin. This style allows you to feel natural and a realistic feel when you wear your dong. For me, minimal low riding harnesses is my style of choice. A front panel harness has a triangular front panel similar to that of a g-string panty. These come with either a hole cut out behind the o-ring or solid.

There are many type of material used to create a harness. Typically you can choose from leather, nylon, PVC, or fabric. Those who are creative can even make their own harness with rope and macramé knots.

Most leather harnesses I’ve tried are firm and hard leather. However, other companies use soft glove leather or even suede.  Nylon is another popular choice. Sturdy and forming to your body, this material is comfortable to wear; even underneath your clothes. Also, nylon is easy to care for and there’s not worrying about lubricant damaging the material. Just pop it into the washer and hang to dry. PVC to me is uncomfortable looking so I’ve never personally tried it. Seemingly perfect for fetish play, there are many options available. Fabric harnesses are normally panty style and come is a variety of styles. Comfortable, perfect to wear under your clothes, and machine washable; these are fun to have on hand. I love the feel of underwear, especially during gender play.

Harnesses also come fancy with several unique styles such as corset backs, zippers, belt buckles and more specialty looks. There’s virtually a harness for every taste and desire. It’s my hope you enjoy your gear and feel comfortable along your journey.

Let’s look at some of the popular harnesses that I own.
